JeriCommerce automatically groups customers by their current tier, purchase history, loyalty balance, onboarding stage, and recent activity. You can use these built-in segments for push notification audiences, location-based campaigns, and reward eligibility.

Built-in segments are available when the program uses JeriCommerce Loyalty. They are managed by JeriCommerce, so you do not need to create rules or maintain lists yourself.

The push notification selector also shows Shopify and Klaviyo segments under their own integration groups. Location-based campaigns and reward eligibility use the built-in JeriCommerce segments. This guide covers the system-managed segments shown under the JeriCommerce categories.

Use Segments in Campaigns

Open the audience selector while creating a push notification or location-based campaign. The selector keeps All customers at the top, then groups JeriCommerce segments into categories such as Tiers, Engagement, and Purchase activity. Push notifications also show external segment groups when Shopify or Klaviyo segment sync is active.

If you choose more than one segment, JeriCommerce combines their audiences. A customer only needs to belong to one of the selected segments to qualify.

All customers cannot be combined with individual segments. Choose it by itself when the campaign should reach the whole eligible audience.

Use Segments for Rewards

Open Usage Conditions while creating or editing a reward. You can set two independent rules:

  • Who can see this reward hides the reward from customers outside the selected segments.
  • Who can redeem this reward keeps the reward visible but limits who can claim it.

Both controls default to Everyone. If you choose more than one segment, a customer only needs to belong to one of them. Customers who can see a reward but do not match its redemption rule see Not available for you.

Reward eligibility uses built-in JeriCommerce segments only. Shopify and Klaviyo segments remain available for push notification audiences, but not for reward rules.

Tier Segments

JeriCommerce creates one segment for every configured VIP tier. The segment name matches the tier name shown for the program.

Segment Exact meaning
Each configured tier Customers whose current tier is that tier. Carry-over tier status is not used. Customers without a current tier are not included.

Adding or deleting a tier can take up to an hour to appear in the segment selector. When a customer's current tier changes, their membership is updated automatically.

Onboarding Segments

Segment Exact meaning
User Onboarding - First Week Customers who joined less than 7 complete days ago.
User Onboarding - Second Week Customers who joined at least 7 days ago, but less than 14 complete days ago.

For Shopify customers, the join date is the date the customer account was created in the store. For customers who join directly through JeriCommerce, it is their registration date. If JeriCommerce does not have a trustworthy join date, the customer is excluded from both onboarding segments.

Engagement Segments

Segment Exact meaning
Engaged Recent Users Customers whose latest qualifying interaction happened less than 7 complete days ago.
Lapsed Users - 7+ Days Customers who interacted before, but whose latest qualifying interaction was at least 7 days ago.
Lapsed Users - 30+ Days Customers who interacted before, but whose latest qualifying interaction was at least 30 days ago. They are also in Lapsed Users - 7+ Days.

A qualifying interaction is one of these actions:

  • Requesting a wallet pass
  • Installing a wallet pass
  • Installing a coupon
  • Redeeming a reward

Passive activity such as receiving a push notification or an automatic wallet pass update does not count as engagement. Customers who have never completed one of the qualifying actions are not placed in an engagement segment.

Purchase Level Segments

Segment Exact meaning
No Recorded Purchases Customers with no distinct purchase orders recorded in JeriCommerce.
One Purchase Customers with exactly 1 distinct purchase order.
2-4 Purchases Customers with 2, 3, or 4 distinct purchase orders.
5+ Purchases Customers with at least 5 distinct purchase orders.

Each order counts once. Refund and cancellation records do not add another purchase. The original order remains a recorded purchase after a refund or cancellation, so it continues to count toward the customer's purchase level.

Purchase Activity Segments

Segment Exact meaning
Purchased in Last 30 Days Customers whose latest recorded purchase happened less than 30 complete days ago.
No Purchase in 30+ Days Customers who purchased before, but whose latest recorded purchase was at least 30 days ago.
No Purchase in 90+ Days Customers who purchased before, but whose latest recorded purchase was at least 90 days ago. They are also in No Purchase in 30+ Days.

Customers who have never purchased are excluded from all three purchase activity segments. Use No Recorded Purchases when you want to target them.

Store Activity Segments

Segment Exact meaning
Visited a Shop in Last 30 Days Customers whose latest recorded store visit happened less than 30 complete days ago.
No Shop Visit in 30+ Days Customers with a previous recorded store visit, but none in the last 30 days.
No Shop Visit in 90+ Days Customers with a previous recorded store visit, but none in the last 90 days. They are also in No Shop Visit in 30+ Days.

A recorded store visit means either a Shopify POS purchase or an NFC reader tap. An Online Store order, GPS location notification, or ordinary wallet pass scan does not count. Customers without a recorded store visit are excluded from all three store activity segments.

Loyalty Balance Segments

Segment Exact meaning
Zero Loyalty Balance Customers with a JeriCommerce loyalty record and a current balance of exactly 0.
Positive Loyalty Balance Customers with a JeriCommerce loyalty record and a current balance greater than 0.

A customer without a JeriCommerce loyalty balance record is excluded from both segments. These segments use the spendable loyalty balance, not tier points.

When Membership Updates

Tier, purchase, balance, and qualifying activity changes normally update the affected customer's segments shortly after the event is recorded. JeriCommerce also runs a daily repair to keep all memberships aligned with the source data.

Time-based boundaries are finalized by that daily repair. For example, a customer reaches Lapsed Users - 7+ Days at the 7-day boundary, but the segment selector can take up to a day to reflect that clock-only change.

Internal JeriCommerce segments do not need the 4-hour external audience sync delay. Shopify and Klaviyo segments still need that preparation time because their membership is imported from another platform.

The 30-day and 90-day inactivity segments are cumulative. Select only the 90-day segment when you want the longest-inactive customers, or select the 30-day segment to include everyone inactive for at least 30 days.
