When you create a Shopify discount, the first thing JeriCommerce asks is what kind of offer you want to make. Your choice decides which options appear next, so it helps to know what each type can do before you start.
Fixed Amount¶
A set amount off, like 10 EUR off the order. This is the most common choice for point-based rewards because customers understand the value immediately.
You can apply it to the whole order or narrow it down to selected products or collections.
Percentage¶
A share off the price, like 15% off. Enter any value between 1 and 100.
Like fixed amounts, a percentage can cover the whole order or only the products and collections you choose.
Free Shipping¶
Covers the shipping cost of the order. There is no value to enter, since the saving is whatever shipping would have cost.
Free shipping applies to every destination you ship to. It cannot be limited to specific products or collections, because shipping is charged on the order as a whole rather than on individual items.
Buy X Get Y¶
Give a percentage discount when customers buy a set quantity. You define two halves:
- Customer buys: the quantity and the products or collections they need to purchase
- Customer gets: the quantity, the products or collections they receive, and the percentage off those items
For example, buy 2 items from the Summer collection, get 1 item from the Accessories collection at 100% off, which is a classic buy two get one free.

What Each Type Supports¶
| Option | Fixed amount | Percentage | Free shipping | Buy X get Y |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enter a discount value | Yes | Yes | No | Percentage off Y |
| Apply to selected products or collections | Yes | Yes | No | Yes, on both halves |
| Require a minimum purchase | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Limit to customer segments | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Set start and end dates | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Combine with other discounts | Yes | Yes | Order and product only | Yes |
Combining With Your Other Discounts¶
By default Shopify treats every discount code as exclusive. If a customer already has a promotion in their cart, Shopify will not let your loyalty code apply on top.
Turn on Allow combining with your own discounts if you want your codes to stack. JeriCommerce then sets the right combination rules for the type you chose: amount off discounts can combine with order, product, and shipping promotions, while free shipping combines with order and product promotions only.
Every Code Is Single Use¶
Whichever type you pick, each generated code can be used once, by one customer. That is what makes a batch of unique codes safe to hand out: a code that leaks cannot be shared around.
